"Tuesday, May 24, 2005 The End of the Beginning sorry, it's been a while, hard to switch heads from shooting this movie, the secret, to house of d. i just wanted to thank everybody here for the support and care you have all given to house of d. i can't say that i'm not disappointed that the movie did not reach a wider audience, but that's the way things go. it's a tough business and we always knew with a movie like this, it would be an uphill battle. i am convinced that house of d will eventually find a large and appreciative audience on dvd and on tv. some movies just take a while to find their stride, this is one. i am sure of this. i probably won't be adding much to this blog in the near future, but i am inspired to blog further, perhaps create a forum that is not dependant on a specific project, one that is more ongoing. i'll see about that. it's been an amazing experience to hear you all out there and to meet some of you. this isn't the end, just the end of the beginning. all my best, david d. Written by David at 5:28 PM - Home Page | Create a Fan Blog Comments: Katie writes: So great to hear from you. Smile - Posted at 5/24/2005 5:36 PM Vicky writes: I make Katie's words mine, David - good to hear from you, although it saddens me a bit that this particular way of communication you so kindly established with us has actually reached an end. It was a great ride and I'm glad to have been part of it, as I'm sure Toomsie and Yuri have. Hope you're enjoying yourself with the new film and that you'll keep letting us know of your projects and ideas somehow. Blessed be. - Posted at 5/24/2005 5:41 PM Yankeesfan writes: Thank you for doing this. It has been a wonderful experience for all of us to hear from you and learn about the process of making House of D. I've already set myself up with Amazon to order it as soon as it becomes available on DVD. I think we're all kind of depressed that it didn't catch on the way we all thought it would. I keep thinking of Jim Valvano-""don't give up, don't ever give up"". We're all still out here eagerly awaiting your next project. - Posted at 5/24/2005 5:44 PM laura writes: David, It is so good to hear from you again. We know that you have been very busy with The Secret and I can imagine that it would be hard to switch back and forth from one to another. I am glad to hear that you are interested in bloggin further on a more open forum. I will be looking forward to that. I am happy to say that I did get to finally see HoD and I enjoyed it very much, but I really want to see it again. I am looking forward to the DVD coming out LauraS - Posted at 5/24/2005 5:58 PM Juliahas2lovers writes: In The Big Inning? I hope that you can continue a blog or forum like this in the future (as you were saying). I hope all is well and keep up the good work David!! - Posted at 5/24/2005 6:12 PM angelskully writes: I am so happy to read you again! I became an addict... You know, sometimes, we learn from our failures which are our errors. (don't know if u understand whet I mean) I meant, now, u know what people like to see and what people doesn't. I am pretty sure, with your next movie (as a director), you will have more success than this one. Maybe those who didn't like HOD, didn't understand the right message. We know you, You are a great writer, and you will try again and again. If we have to stop after our first try, as much never not to star, isn't it? anyway, I hope you pass a good time in Canada and ""have fun"" with your movie ^^... if I can say! Never forget, we are here, waiting for you, and we believe in you. take care! - Posted at 5/24/2005 6:12 PM Sarah writes: David, Great to hear from you, and great to know it's only the 'end of the beginning'. Can't say I'm not disappointed either. At this now I wont be as inclined to try and wax poetic for clumsy paragraph upon paragraph as freqently on here Smile Wish you the best. It was an uphill battle, but not a losing one. Sarah - Posted at 5/24/2005 6:14 PM mulderpause writes: Thank you, David. I certainly understand how busy you have been though, but I really do hope that you will start another blog with us again someday soon, hopfully, I know ALL of us have enjoyed this time with you! I finally got to see HOD (3 times!!) and I totally loved it. I can't understand for the life of me, why the critics didn't like it. I went with a friend once, my hubby once and my daughter once, and they all enjoyed it very much! I will definitely be buying the DVD the DAY it is released. I hope you and your family have a wonderful summer together. Please give some serious consideration to starting another blog with us though!! Gods blessing to you and your family! - Posted at 5/24/2005 6:20 PM Bertha writes: Dear David, It's good to hear from you again. I'm sure the film will find a wider audience, and an audience it's duly deserving of in the future. It is an uphill battle, but I'm also glad we were allowed a part of it. I do hope you continue blogging in some way as I know we have all come to look forward to hearing from you, and listening to your experiences, whether be it filming or writing or directing. Nevertheless, I wish you all the best in future endeavours. I hope we will hear from you again in some form or another soon. Take care, and much love. - Posted at 5/24/2005 6:21 PM Sarah writes: David, Glad to hear from you, and glad to know it's only 'the end of the begining'. Can't say I'm not disappointed, either, but only time can tell. Maybe it's just a case of ""the greatest artists are appreciated after their time"". Maybe it'll just take some distance and perspective for people to see. Most people need that. It was an uphill battle, but not a losing one. I think you know that, though. The whole experience of reading your blog entries and seeing you at the screenings has really made you seem like just a regular guy instead of some huge celebrity. Okay, a really cool regular guy. And i do have two more HoD questions......I had this already for when you posted next so i'll copy it here. Last two questions, I promise - I've only managed to see the movie twice and there is so much in there that i'm sure i could see it several more times and still find new images to connect and more layers to peel back - but these are two that hit me right off - was the story of Lot a deliberate? (I realize nothing is accidental in this movie but the story of Lot runs parallel to Tommy's - ie leaving home and not looking back - and in a wider sense they both left countries or areas - and was the choice and the number of butts he fishes out of the toilet - three is a number with some significance biblically - the cord with three strands, the trinity, et al - it is also the number of Tommy's original family and his new family - lol And I have to say - I totally understand the bathroom scene! I grew up in the seventies and many homes didn't have extra bathrooms! You made sure the shower curtain was pulled and you shared! many thanks....hope all goes well with The Secret and with B F&^ing D Angie - Posted at 5/24/2005 7:15 PM ~~Julie~~ writes: Hey David! Hope it hurries out to theaters! -Stephanie - Posted at 5/24/2005 11:35 PM Lori writes: I do hope you'll continue to blog in the future. It's a great way to keep in touch with the fans and really a valuable thing for yourself and your family. I pushed the movie as much as I could at the theatre...but it's tough from the projection booth. I know I'll be buying my copy as soon as it's available. Thank you, Mr. D., for the film and the blog. - Posted at 5/24/2005 11:36 PM Amy writes: Hi David, Thank you for posting. This blog was a wonderful treat for your fans so thank you so much for taking the time for us and I hope you will be able to continue a blog like this in the future. I'm sorry that House of D didn't reach a wider audience. Please don't give up. It was obviously very loved and appreciated by a lot of people who saw it. I hope the DVD release will give it another chance. I don't know whether it will be released in cinemas overseas but I will definitely buy the DVD when it is released here in Australia anyway. Hopefully we will hear from you again in the future. Take care and best of luck with all your projects. Amy - Posted at 5/24/2005 11:39 PM Sif writes: Hi Mr. D, Great hearing from you again. About a more project-free blog, check out Kevin Smith's: http://www.silentbobspeaks.com/ Maybe he can give you pointers on getting one set up for yourself. I know there are tons of your fans who would love you to have your own blog, myself included! Best to you and yours! This has been such a wonderful, unforgettable experience. I'm sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted; the way we wanted but we've done the best we could. You said the movie is like a child, then I must be one of its fosterparents, and I can hardly wait to see it with my own eyes. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Maybe an idea for future blogs, now we came only into the process of promotion, after the shooting; and there are t"
